The Project

The adjacent business car park is routinely under capacity and therefore the proposal was to rebalance the demand with capacity and seek to improve both the revenue stream and customer service within the car park.

Inviron Limited was awarded this project as part of their undertaking as a Local Project Integrator (LPI) for HAL, and as such were appointed as the Principal Contractor to oversee the design and installation of the associated works.

Gatwick Construction Limited (GCL) was the preferred contractor to undertake the building and civil engineering aspects of the project for Inviron, due to our ability to mobilise at short notice and our commitment to deliver the project on schedule. The scope of work included for:

  1. Production of phasing plans and traffic management plans as part of the stakeholder communications package.
  2. Alteration to traffic flows and directional signs to accommodate the new layout and allow a passenger bus route to be created, including new foundations for the additional bus stops.
  3. Parking Zone signage to be upgraded and repositioned as required.
  4. Reconfiguration of entrance/ exit to car park.
  5. Relocation of the security boundary fence and Armco barriers.
  6. Removal of existing line marking and reinstatement to suit new layout, including a new pedestrian safe walking route.

Planning the sequence of works was fundamental to the success of this project, as the car park had to remain open for the duration of the work. Furthermore, the work had to be completed in a short period of time prior to the commencement of the holiday season, the busiest period of the year for the car park.

The Outcome

GCL was able to deliver the project ahead of schedule through detailed planning and sequencing of works, in conjunction with strong stakeholder management, keeping disruption to a minimum.
