The Gatwick School Activities Week “Careers in Construction” Day

Gatwick Construction hosted a day of engaging workshops with the Year 8 students from The Gatwick School, tackling stereotypes, and ensuring it is clear every person is welcome in the construction industry.

Earlier in July two of our team members were delighted to take part in The Gatwick School’s Activities Week, delivering a full day of interactive workshops focused on careers in construction and civil engineering.

The sessions introduced students to the many career pathways available in the industry and highlighted how diverse skill sets, from problem-solving to creativity, are vital to building and maintaining the infrastructure we all rely on.

Charlie and Emily spoke about the importance of tackling stereotypes, and they made sure the message was clear:

There’s space for everyone, and every voice matters in building the future.

Students also explored how the industry is adapting to meet environmental and sustainability challenges and why future professionals will play a crucial role in creating greener, more resilient communities.

To bring it all to life, students played a custom-designed board game focused on urban and town planning, exploring the real-world challenges of developing and maintaining infrastructure. A lot of learning, a lot of laughter and some very strategic gameplay!

A big thank you to The Gatwick School for the opportunity. Inspiring the next generation of engineers, designers, and planners is something we’re always proud to be part of.
