Concept, design & commissioning

Signal Gantry Angel Lane Bridge, Stratford

In preparation for London 2012 Olympic Games and to improve the existing infrastructure, the Angel Lane Bridge, located over a busy Network Rail corridor had to be demolished and replaced.

The Project

In preparation for London 2012 Olympic Games and to improve the existing infrastructure, the Angel Lane Bridge, located over a busy Network Rail corridor had to be demolished and replaced.

Balfour Beatty was the Principal Contractor, with Amey Rail acting as the Rail Interface Contractor for this project.

Prior to the commencement of the main contract work, an existing Signal (L283) had to be removed from its current location, and relocated with a new gantry away from the bridge to maintain signal sighting once the new bridge had been constructed.

Gatwick Construction Limited (GCL) was contracted by Amey Rail to undertake this enabling works, due to our ability to mobilise at short notice. The work included:

  1. Installation of new insitu concrete foundations for replacement gantry including setting out and engineering to ensure accuracy of installation.
  2. Installation of temporary crane mat for lifting operations.
  3. Assist in lifting operations to position new gantry on foundation and fixing of gantry to foundation.
  4. Removal of existing gantry and disposal off site.
  5. Removal of temporary crane mat.

The Outcome

This was primarily awarded to GCL due to our flexibility in being able to mobilise at short notice and ability to dovetail into existing possessions to complete the works.
